Undergraduate Scholarship Programme — Fourth Edition, 2026

The Nifemi Brown Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship was established with a single, clear conviction: that academic ability and financial access should never be the same thing. In Nigeria, they too often are. A student can be brilliant, consistently excellent, genuinely motivated, community-rooted, and still lose their university place because they have been priced out of education. This scholarship exists to interrupt that pattern.

Since its first edition, the NBF Undergraduate Scholarship has awarded full-ride scholarships to academically excellent Nigerian students from low-income households. Funds are disbursed towards students’ academic pursuits, ensuring every naira reaches its intended purpose. Recipients are selected not only for academic performance but for evidence of character, community involvement, and resilience.

The Essay Prompt

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how work is done across industries, including yours. In 300–400 words, describe how AI is currently affecting or will affect your specific field of study, and explain what skills, knowledge, or approaches you are developing to remain relevant and valuable in that changing landscape. Be specific to your discipline; a general answer will not score well.

The essay is not a test of your ability to write perfectly. It is an opportunity to show us how you think. We are looking for clarity, specificity, and evidence that you understand the world you are entering and have genuine ideas about your place in it.

What Makes a Strong Essay Response?

  • Discipline-specificity — name your course, your field, the actual tools or shifts relevant to your area of study
  • Concrete examples of AI use in your field now, or credible, evidence-based predictions
  • Personal voice — what are YOU doing, learning, or planning in response to this shift
  • Intellectual honesty — acknowledge complexity and uncertainty rather than giving a polished non-answer
  • Original thinking — we have read hundreds of essays; we can tell when someone is writing what they think we want to hear

What Will Score Poorly?

  • Generic responses that could apply to any student in any field
  • Responses that focus only on AI in general without connecting it to the applicant’s specific discipline
  • Essays that list AI tools without showing understanding of their implications
  • Content that appears to have been written by an AI — reviewers are trained to recognize this
