1. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INVOLVED?

My friendship with Nifemi started back in our first year at the University of Lagos. We were roommates at Honors hostel, and we connected naturally. By the time we were in 300 level, we coincidentally ended up sharing a room again at Moremi hostel. It was there that Nifemi shared her dream of launching a humanitarian project called Universities for Humanities, aimed at reaching the needy in several communities. The idea resonated with me, and immediately I said, “Let’s go around all the Moremi rooms to seek support.” She accepted my advice, and we were elated by the encouraging responses we received.

We planned our first outreach, which took place at Dustbin Estate, Ajegunle, Lagos. We distributed food items, clothes, shoes, writing materials, and more. I am so happy to see how the idea has flourished. To date, the project has reached various communities in Lagos, including Mushin, Ilaje Fadeyi, and Regina Mundi Old People’s Home. My inspiration to be part of the Nifemi Brown Foundation (NBF) stems from my passion for caring for humanity, which is exactly what NBF stands for.

2. HOW HAS VOLUNTEERING WITH NBF IMPACTED YOUR OWN LIFE OR PERSPECTIVE?

Through NBF, I am fulfilling my passion to contribute to community development. I’ve gained experiences that I have applied in other areas, including academic conferences and within my church. Joining NBF has given me a platform to live out my passion for giving back to the communities I find myself in. NBF is truly an enabler.

3. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE THINKING ABOUT VOLUNTEERING WITH NBF?

We need to support visions that align with our own. If you are passionate about making the world a better place, know that NBF welcomes you to join forces with us in reaching out to the world through our local communities. Together, we can “make our world a better place.” You are always welcome to NBF.

If Adebare’s journey resonates with you, and you’d like to contribute to making the world a better place, we welcome you to join us at NBF as we continue to touch lives and uplift communities.
